The Catholic Post Articles (1935 to 1998)

recordsThe Post is now on microfilm! If you are searching for an event that was covered in The Catholic Post during the years 1935 to 1998, the Archives Office can provide you with either an electronic or hard copy of the article. Just complete and send in The Catholic PostRequest Form and your request will be accommodated in the order received.

Recordkeeping

Finance Guidelines and School Records — What to Keep have been drafted to assist Catholic parishes and schools in identifying records of historic and legal value.

Archival Policies

These are official diocesan policies that relate to recordkeeping issues. Included are: Diocesan Records Policy, Collection Policy, and Duties of the Archivist.

Sacramental Records

recordsSacramental records are closed to the general public after the year 1930. This policy is based on federal census guidelines and is consistent with the recommendations of the Association of Catholic Diocesan Archivists. If you are looking for baptismal, marriage, death, first communion, or confirmation record prior to 1931 you should complete the Sacramental Request Form online or print it out and mail it to us at the address listed to the right. (Presently there is not an established fee for requesting these record requests — though donations are most appreciated.)

In January of 2004 the Archives Office began a diocesan wide project of microfilming sacramental registers for the purpose of making such records available to researchers and genealogists. (Check our Up-to-Date List of Microfilmed Records to find out what sacramental records are available to you through the Archives Office.) You may check our Closed Parishes List to see where the records of closed parishes are located.

*For sacramental records from parishes not listed above, please contact the parish directly. (Please bear in mind that the administrative work of the parish staff may preclude such requests.)

School Records

recordsLooking for your Catholic school record? Click on Closed Schools List to find out where they are kept.

If you would like a copy of a student record that is in the diocesan Archives please print out the form Request for Student Records and mail it to the address listed to the right.
